What is NT Scan | 1st Trimester scan | Dr. Dhani Reddy Sai Keerthana
"There are no risk associated with NT scan. It is absolutely safe during pregnancy. So there are few limitations to the NT scan that is ancan is not 100% accurate in diagnosing chromosomal abnormalities. We can only get detect to the accuracy of around 90% when there is a combined first trimester screening the confirmation is always by invasive testing called chonic villi sampling or amniocentesis wherein we place a very thin needle into the uterine cavity and we take a small amount of amniotic fluid for testing. This is the final confirmation test we do it when the risk is high or when there is any structural abnormality in the baby or when the nuchal translucency is more than 3.5 million"
Food & Water before NT SCAN-YES/NO | Dr. Dhani Reddy Sai Keerthana
"There are no prerequisites required for NT scan. It is a very simple scan and the patient need not have a full bladder. For this they can empty their bladder before the scan and they can have food if they are hungry. It need not be done on an empty stomach"
When is Nuchal Translucency or NT Scan done? | Dr. Dhani Reddy Sai Keerthana
"NT scan is done between 11 to 13 weeks of gestational age and the length of the baby should be between 45 to 84 mm. Ideally the NT measurement should be less than 2.5 mm. And anything more than 3.5 mm the chances of chromosomal abnormalities increase and the structural defects also increase in the baby"
Nuchal Scan(NT Scan) in Pregnancy | Dr.Dhani Reddy Sai Keerthana
"So NT Scan is Nuchal Translucency scan. We do it between 11 to 13 weeks of gestational age and nuchal translucency is nothing but the fluid behind the baby's neck. All the babies have this fluid and as the baby develops this fluid comes down. So we measure this thickness during the NT scan"
Can ULTRASOUND detect Chromosomal Abnormality? I Dr. Saroja Mood
"Yes prenatal ultrasound has proven its efficacy in identifying the sonographic markers for chromosomal abnormalities and we have genetic sonograms where we will be searching for the particular markers like in trisomy 21 where there were increased NT or absent nasal bone along with other minor markers"
Importance of 20 Week Scan or ANOMALY SCAN ? I Dr. Saroja Mood
"20 weeks scan is very important because we will be searching the anatomical defects in the fetus. This is the anatomical survey of the fetus where the fetus will be examined from the head to toe in detail. We will be searching for genetic markers in the scan. If we find any abnormalities we will be counseling the parents and regarding what should be done further course"

Frequently Asked Questions & Answers

Who is a radiologist?

Radiologists are doctors that specialise in diagnosing and treating injuries and diseases using medical imaging such as X-rays, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), nuclear medicine, positron emission tomography (PET) and ultrasound.

What is interventional radiology?

Interventional radiology (IR) is a specialised field within radiology where doctors use medical imaging to guide minimally invasive surgical procedures that diagnose, treat, and cure many kinds of conditions. Interventional radiology procedures are cheaper, less risky and less painful when compared to conventional surgeries.

What are the different types of imaging services Cloudnine offers?

Cloudnine’s Department of Radiology provides the best-in-class radiology and imaging services such as X-ray, CT (Computed Tomography), Nuclear medicine, Ultrasound, and MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging). The equipment used creates images of high quality that are useful in the diagnosis of different diseases.

What is an X-ray?

X-rays are a type of electromagnetic radiation that is used to produce images of the structures inside our body. They are primarily used to look at the bones and joints and sometimes soft tissue, such as internal organs as well. They can detect bone fractures and breaks painlessly.

What is Ultrasonography?

The diagnostic procedure in which high-frequency sound (ultrasound) waves are used to produce images of internal organs and other tissues is called ultrasonography. It is used for several purposes, including during pregnancy, for diagnosing conditions and for image guidance during certain procedures.

What is a 3D scan for pregnancy?

Normal ultrasound reports give 2-dimensional images of your baby in black and white. 3D scans show coloured still pictures of your baby in three dimensions. The images are sharper and clearer. Apart from giving a much better look at your baby's face, when used along with a 2D scan, they can help in the earlier diagnosis of many potential foetal defects.

What is an MRI scan?

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a type of scan that uses strong magnetic fields and radio waves to produce detailed images of the inside of the body. MRIs can be done on different parts of your body. It is especially useful for looking at soft tissues and the nervous system.

What is a CT scan?

CT scan or Computerised Tomography combines a series of X-ray images taken from different angles around your body and uses computer processing to create cross-sectional images (slices) of the inside of the body. It shows detailed images of any part of the body, including the bones, muscles, fat, organs and blood vessels.

Is diagnostic imaging safe for pregnant women?

Ultrasonography (USG) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are completely safe for pregnant women and are the preferred imaging technique during pregnancy. Even in computed tomography (CT) scans, the radiation exposure to the foetus is so negligible that it cannot harm. X-ray examinations of body parts like arms, legs, head, teeth, or chest do not expose the reproductive organs to the direct X-ray beam. So these kinds of procedures, when properly done, do not involve any risk to the unborn child.
