MASK FOR A CHILD – Know the Right Age! I Dr. Spoorti Kapate
"So the WHO mandates masks for age 12 years and above and they are supposed to follow the same guidelines as adults follow. Between 5 to 11 years above 5 years is what the WHO says children can start wearing masks but it depends because there are some kids who might not cooperate on wearing masks. So it depends on child to child basis. It depends on the infectivity around that area, depends on the people in the family who are affected or not. If at all a child is between 5 to 11 years and the child is wearing a mask it is advisable that you teach the children a little bit about the mask and how to wear it and hygiene following around it like for example the mask should be the appropriate size. It should cover the nose, the mouth, the chin you have to make sure that you tell the child that the baby or child should not touch the mask again and again should not keep pulling down the mask again and again and before wearing the mask you're supposed to either use a sanitizer or use soap and water to clean your hands and correctly store the mask also. You can't just keep it lying. So to answer the question, age five and above children are allowed to wear masks"
BABY DRINK MOTHER’S MILK - For how long? I Dr. Spoorti Kapate
"WHO recommends exclusive breast feeding upto 6 months of age, which means you are not supposed to give water, digestive enzymes, honey, gripe water, animal milk, anything apart from breast milk to your baby upto the age of 6 months"
MOST COMMON ANESTHESIA in OBSTETRICS & GYNAECOLOGY I Dr. Nanda Kumar M
The most common type of anesthesia used in obstetrics and gynecological procedure is the spinal anesthesia. The other form of anesthesia used is epidural and general anesthesia. The spinal being one of the most widely practiced is the safest anesthesia and it is a type of regional anesthesia and it tends to numb the nerves that carries the pain stimulus. In case of cesarean section the mother is conscious and awake during the entire procedure and gets to know the entire procedure and sees her baby immediately after she is born. For epidural it is a regional anesthesia very similar to the spinal but here we have an epidural catheter attached to the back and to manage the pain during the full length of the labor. The general anesthesia is less preferred during the cesarean section . Whereas it is used in laparoscopy and short surgical procedures. Here the patient is completely conscious and not aware of what is going on and once the procedure is over the patent is conscious usually in few minutes.

COVID +ve MOMs I How long to isolate from babies? I Dr. Arjun S K I Cloudnine Hospital
This is a very common question that many mothers ask the pediatric and and the gynecologist. If they are infected with Covid, how long they need to be isolated. Current guidelines clearly say that if the mother is locally asymptomatic, sometimes we electively do test s before the surgery. So if the mother is totally asymptomatic from the day of tests, she has to be isolated for 10 days. After 10 days she has to come pout provided if she is going out and carrying the baby, then better to maintain good handwash and good respiratory hygiene if necessary. If the mother has any symptoms of covid, then in that situation for threw day of the last symptom, if the mother had fever, cough , cod and it lasted for 2 to 3 days, without any medications she did not have any fever form the 4th day, than from that day she has to maintain minimum 10 days of isolation. So the mother should be totally afebrile without taking any fever medications, from that time she has to be isolated for the next 10 days. So before coming out and mingling with other family remembers and going outside.
Express breastmilk & feed baby if you don’t want to feed directly I Dr. Arjun SK
There are three situations where your feeding would be difficult for you. One is if you are not practicing rooming in. Second , it can happen in the mother is having some symptoms like hospitalization or having some symptoms like cold and cough, second situation wherein the baby is in the ICU and the third situation is when you don’t want to feed directly and you are scared of it . In these situations you can express breast milk and store it at room temperature for 4 to 6 hours. Before expressing clean breast and maintain proper respiratory hygiene and washing hands thoroughly before expressing milk. Expression can be manual or by a breast pump. Preferably you have to do 6 to 8 times a day, preferably m in the night the reason is the milk expression is more. If you keep expressing milk, lot of milk will be starting to express and the baby will be cared better. By expressing milk you will be giving antibodies to the newborn so that the newborns will also get immunity fir the milk. Second is bonding will increase between you and the baby. Third thing is prevention of clogging of the ducts in the ducts and filled by infection can be prevented. So if you are not ready to feed. Then the milk can be expressed by following all the safety precautions and that milk can be given to the baby through palada or katori.
